Technology is an essential part of sport, and technological development is inevitable. But where do we draw the line?
Athletes routinely use technology to optimize technique and sports apparel, and equipment is constantly re-engineered to enhance and optimize performance. The question is, who is responsible for success – the athlete or the technology? Swimshop.co.uk have produced an infographic dealing with this very question. We must ask what it is we want from sport: we enjoy the competition, skill and spectacle of seeing elite athletes at the top of their game. When technology begins to interfere with these values, we risk altering the very nature of the sports we love.
