This infographic, created by the associates at Tate Law Offices PC, looks at why there are so many deadly crashes in the Permian Basin area in Texas. Route 25, which passes directly through the area, has earned the nickname “Death Highway.”
The main reason that accidents have spiked in the area is due to the large number of oil-industry-related vehicles using the road. As oil production in the Permian Basin has increased in recent years, the amount of 18-wheelers and other large vehicles have increased on roads in the area. Large vehicles are much more likely to cause traffic fatalities in the event of a crash than a normal car.
Since the majority of these crashes are caused by some sort of preventable driver error, the infographic urges drivers to use extreme caution when navigating around large trucks. This step alone could prevent many of the crashes that happen each year.
